NASS FESTIVAL WELCOMES WILEY AS HEADLINER
Wiley has always been huge in the music scene in the UK. Wiley's name first originates from the Thundercats cartoon character Wiley Kat. Born in 1979,
Wiley first saw success in 2001 when he was part of UK garage crew, Pay As U Go who had a hit, Champagne Dance which became a top 40 hit. When he started releasing instrumentals back in the early 2000's they were widely received with Eskimo in particular helping him rise to fame as a Grime MC. Often called The Godfather of Grime, Wiley has been greatly regarded for a long time.

With huge anthems recognised by everyone like Wearing My Rolex and Heatwave, Wiley is a truly established artist. However, long before this more recent hits, Wiley was pumping out sick tunes like I Love You. which has now been sampled time and time again in grime tunes.
After Pay As U Go broke up Wiley went on to form Roll Deep alongside Dizzee Rascal and Tinchy Stryder. Their sound begin to stray from garage and started becoming what would become called grime- hence Wiley's recognition as The Godfather. Wiley originally used the term "eskibeat" as a label for what we now would call grime.
WATCH: ON A LEVEL
One thing Wiley is known for, is how quickly he releases his music. In 2008, Wiley was truly brought into the limelight after his hit Wearing My Rolex smashed it in the charts. When Grime Wave released a month later it was labelled as "a very pre-Rolex album" using the harsh bass rhythms Wiley is so well known for. While he's released a whole heap of sick albums since 2008, his most recent, Godfather (2017) saw his greatest success with it becoming his highest charting album entering in at nine in the charts.

Following this, Wiley was awarded an "outstanding contribution to music" award by NME magazine for Godfather. Although Godfather is an outstanding album and saw Wiley's greatest success, you better believe I Love you and Eskimo are still banged out on the regular.
If you wanna see the Godfather live in action head on down to Nass for a sick time. A quick Paperchasers recommendation would be to check out Chasing The Art if you haven't already.
